David Cordani:

As I pause and reflect back on the 35 years I’ve had the privilege of working for the organization, and we started as a very traditional multi-line insurance company, and over relatively short period of time, the last decade and a half, we’ve evolved to a leading global health service company.

As we look forward, we have the ability to have such a positive difference in people’s lives.

We continue to see tremendous progress already with our Commitment to Better with our new PBS offering and model that is one of a kind in the marketplace, transformative offerings of affordability and fertility and biosimilars as we drive new offerings, and then our new Clearity solution and further expanding behavioral health abroad.

Brian Evanko:

And I’ve had the opportunity to work with you now for 15 plus years very closely and learn from you, get mentorship from you, which I’ve appreciated tremendously.

Since you’ve been the CEO, you think about, we started as a traditional insurance company with 40 million or so customer relationships. We’ve now grown to being a global health services company focused purely on people’s health, making their health better, being there in the moments we need them. And now we serve over 180 million people worldwide.

And I’m really excited about the opportunity to lead The Cigna Group in the next chapter, using the power of data, advanced analytics and insights to give people care that’s more relevant in their health care journey, and our Lead to One strategy is a great example of the investments we’re making to be more customer and patient first on a go forward basis.

David Cordani:

I’ve had the wonderful fortune of being CEO of The Cigna Group for almost 17 years now. And as I think back about that time, so many unique opportunities from the Affordable Care Act, to the successful acquisition of Express Scripts. Ultimately, the launch of Evernorth and then leading through the pandemic.

In any one of those instances, as I think back, were unique, defining moments that could define an era.

But as we look forward, we’re heading into another transitional chapter, for that next chapter, I’m confident that Brian is our next leader.

His long-standing tenure, which provides him diverse experiences, line jobs, meaning running businesses, a variety of sizes, and staff, jobs, financial officer, governance responsibilities, etc. But also living and working in the United States and outside of the United States, appreciating different cultures and different operating models. But beyond all the experiences, it’s the power within. It’s a competitive spirit. It’s a deep resilience, and it’s a passion for what we do each and every day. So I’m excited and privileged to hand the baton over to Brian.

Over the next about 100 days, I’ll be working shoulder to shoulder with Brian to ensure a seamless transition. And then on July 1st, I’m going to have the wonderful fortune to transition to yet a new role within Cigna as our executive chairman of the board of directors where I’ll continue to be able to work with Brian as well as our board of directors and importantly, be part of the success of the future for The Cigna Group.

Brian Evanko:

I’m tremendously excited and humbled by the opportunity to lead this great organization in our next chapter. Under David’s leadership, we’ve had tremendous innovation that we brought to the market and my close to three decades of leadership at The Cigna Group has proven that our mission is what drives us and I intend to continue to fuel that energy going forward in our colleagues, for the benefit of the customers and patients who rely upon us. So we use data analytics, modern technologies, to make care experiences that much simpler, that much more relevant, and that much more timely, such that personalized health care is available to each and every person who relies on us.

So the next year of health care is here now. It’s upon us, and I’m extremely excited to drive that on behalf of The Cigna Group.
